The year was 1959-1960, during the pre-electoral battle between ERE[1] and EDA. I was really young, around ten years old and I heard the following words from an elderly lady in a small village in Corfu, called Agioi Deka. Her name was Neno, she was very old and, apparently, she had a bad relationship with her daughter-in-law. As she heard the people of ERE propagating that “the communists will take over your homes and seize your belongings”, she replied pompously: “No way! I don’t even let my daughter-in-law, Georgia, eat my eggs and eggplants, you really think I’d let those filthy communists?”

Η Νένο γερόντισσα προφανώς με τη νύφη της θα ήταν στα μαχαίρια, άκουσε τους ανθρώπους της ΕΡΕ να λένε «θα σας πάρουν την περιουσία σας, τα σπίτια σας», βγάζει μια κραυγή και λέει με στόμφο: «Όσκε, όοκεγιε εγώ δεν αφήνω τη Γεωργία, που είναι νύφη μου, να φάει τα αυγά μου και τις μελιτζάνες μου, θα αφήσω τους παλιοκομμουνιστές;»
